Intergraph Public Safety Customers San Ramon and San Jose Highlight Life-Saving Application

San Ramon Valley Fire Department, California, participated in a joint press event with San Jose Fire Department yesterday to announce the release of a life-saving phone application now available in San Jose. The San Ramon Valley Fire Department launched the free iPhone and Android application last year that allows registered community members who are trained in CPR to help in times of need. San Jose is now joining the effort, too.

The life-saving app notifies users if a call to respond to a cardiac arrest in their vicinity is received. If someone nearby suffers a sudden cardiac arrest in a public place, such as a street, restaurant, store, or park, the app displays a detailed map showing the victim’s exact location, along with the location of the nearest automatic external defibrillator.

Approximately 300,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the United States each year. Generally, a cardiac arrest victim can live about ten minutes after the heart has stopped beating, so every second is critical. The app enables ordinary citizens, who may be just moments away, to rush to the scene and administer CPR until emergency management professionals arrive.
